the good club with ezra.
There is not a lot you can ask for at a gig as a band. People singing along to your songs, cheering and recognizing your songs. It is a bit of a problem when your songs consist of riffs of other more famous bands as the likes of Artic Monkeys, Kooks or Interpol. What we’ve seen of the band The Nintendos, who supported Ezra Furman & The Harpoons in B72 last Thursday, was definitely great. If they would have just played their own songs.

Yes bands will always get linked to other bands by music journalists because it is just an easy thing to do – compare a sound, state the influences, slag the band off or praise it - review done. But here it is not the case.
Some guitar riffs have been completely taken (not to say stolen) and it would be okay if something like this happend in one song but it happened in pretty much every song. But this is not all shit I am talking here, they could do so much better. The Nintendos definitely do have a lot of potential and already get good songs together. They have the looks, the voice and the talent – now they just really have to get rid off these songbooks and do their own stuff.

B72 was completely stuffed with people, most of them waiting for Ezra Furman and his collegues The Harpoons, not an easy job for a photographer. Being a photographer and not having enough room to move is something you can tackle, not some girl though who rips off you rucksack where all the photo gear is in and who wants to fight you. Where was the polite way of saying that you are pissed off with the rucksack in your face? I wonder.
Following this obviously the male photographer is the person to blame and gets kicked out off the club (was allowed to get in again but where’s the point?)

But back to Ezra and comparisions. Well usually he is getting compared to Bob Dylan (and yes he might be some kind of nu-folk version) but I say he is way closer to Kid Harpoon. The band is also very into dispute settlement and me thinks they are very likely to do a group hug after a fight. They did play a very good set of songs all good to listen to and dance and a perfect background music for the girls with salivary drippling from their mouths as they had the chance to see Ezra strip off. With that body and the song he wrote it’s a surprise he hasn’t gotten round dating Kirsten Dunst yet. His hits “Take off your sunglasses” and “We should fight ” sounded just like the recording and put the perfect ending to an eventful and joyful evening!

The club night called “Der Gute Club” -” the good club” in English is definitely worth going.
Next “Der Gute Club ” event is on the 2nd of Sepetmber at B72 where Ginga from Austria are going to play.
