Yes, indeed I wore white socks with flat white sandals and felt rather weird doing so. But what the hell, it was dead comfy! No wonder it’s the number one choice of German tourists and their number one fashion faux pas. But as the saying goes, you live freely if you haven’t a reputation to lose. After all I’m wearing a pair of the recently again fashionable jelly shoes, which I actually hated as a child.
But in fact, what some people might find rather weird, I have took into my heart, although my white socks looked more like beige socks at the end of the day. However I enjoyed stepping out the line today and being German through and through down to my socks. Effectively I think that the step to wearing socks with flat sandals is a bigger one to take than wearing socks in combination with Plateau sandals for example. Maybe also because I haven’t yet noticed people wearing that combination (apart from those fashionable Germans). Perhaps a daring experiment that surely receives a lot of criticism.
Ja tatsächlich ich trage weiße Socken in flachen Sandalen und kam mir dabei mächtig seltsam vor. Aber was solls, es war verdammt bequem! Kein Wunder, dass die deutschen Touris das gerne tragen (hin und wieder bin ich ja selbst deutscher Tourist) und deswegen ihren Ruf weg haben. Aber wie sagt man so schön, ist der Ruf einmal ruiniert, dann lebt es sich ganz ungeniert. Immerhin ich trage ja auch die neuerdings wieder modernen Badelatschen, die ich als Kind eigentlich gehasst habe und die jetzt mit dem neuen Namen Jelly Sandals daher kommen. Ja Englisch hört sich fast (!) immer besser an.
Aber tatsächlich, was manchen Leuten jetzt womögich komisch vorkommt, habe ich heute in mein Herz geschlossen, auch wenn meine weißen Socken am Schluss des Tages eher beige aussahen. Dennoch mochte ich heute das aus der Reihe tanzen und voll und ganz deutsch sein bis hin zu den Socken, wenn es auch keine Tennissocken waren. Tatsächlich finde ich, dass der Schritt zur Socke in flachen Sandalen noch einmal größer ist, als der zur Socke in Plateausandalen zum Beispiel. Vielleicht auch, weil mir das in Wien generell noch nie auf gefallen ist. Vielleicht ein gewagtes Experiment, dass sicher viele Kritiker findet.
