Q&A: Coves
TOY’s amazing remix of No Ladder pointed us towards the brilliant band Coves who are made up by the talented duo Rekekah Wood and multi-instrumentalist John Rigard who, since forming just over a year ago in Lemington Spa, have caused a rouse with their first EP Cast A Shadow. Their music is a bit lo-fi, garage rocky and just all around amazing. Today they are playing a gig presented by All Tomorrow’s Parties at the Sebright Arms – don’t miss it! They’re one of the first bands to take part in their new monthly gig series, in which, ATP work together with band to come up with ideas for entertainment – DJs, films, projections, etc.

A book/song that changed us

What influences would you say was present in your music?
JOHN: 60’s nuggetsy fuzz, 50’s everyley bros reverbs, 90’s rolling beats, rock n roll filtered through tranquilizers
What process do you go through when you write your music?
JOHN: Our Coves cave is a mess of equipment and wires…some of it works, some of it doesn’t…I will lose myself in there and when there is a base Beck will come round…we will drink and have fun and not leave until we have written a song
Are you seeking fame or fortune, birds or something altogether different?
JOHN: My only true passion is in the studio writing, arranging and producing…I want nothing more than to be able to survive and do this only.
How would you describe your sound in one sentence?
